A valley business owner pleaded not guilty to charges that he improperly diverted funds from his valley business.

Richard Pellin, who also serves as Milton Township's fire chief, and his mother, Vanessa Pellin, are accused of obtaining the funds for their personal use from Pellin Emergency Services and R and V Leasing Corporation.

Pellin faces nine counts of theft, nine counts of forgery and one count of aggravated theft.

Vanessa Pellin is charged with one count of aggravated theft.

According to the indictment, the amount of money exceeded $100,000.

The two will face trial as co-defendants in December.

If convicted, Pellin could face up to one year in prison for each count.
